Marketing Manager (Freelance)
Omoi is looking for a marketing manager who loves manga to run our social platforms and engage with our readerbase! The ideal candidate is highly independent, proactive, and up to date on trends in the manga/anime communities.
You’ll be in charge of running marketing campaigns independently, reporting campaign performance to the Marketing Director, and sharing insights on what sorts of genres/titles readers are most interested in to the rest of our team to help inform licensing and content/localization decisions.
This is an hourly, part-time contractor position at a small, fast-moving startup that is paid on a monthly basis. This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities
- Manage Omoi’s social media presence across multiple platforms:
- – Plan and schedule posts.
– Engage with our audience with comments, reposts, etc., while exercising sensitivity around brand voice and sensitive topics.
- – Plan and schedule posts.
- Develop and implement marketing plans for new series/volume/event launches, coordinating release timing with content and licensing departments.
- Identify and highlight highest-impact series, genres, and marketing tactics; allocate resources towards standout titles.
- Get approvals from Japanese publishers for social media campaigns, discounts/promotions, and internal marketing assets (NOTE: You will be working with English-speaking contacts at these Japanese publishers. Fluency in Japanese is not a requirement for this position).
- Work with asset designer to create assets for social media and announcements.
- Plan out live event marketing campaigns, including convention panels and booths.
- Regularly report metrics, trends, and insights to the Marketing Director.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years experience in marketing for manga, entertainment, or publishing companies.
- Highly independent and proactive.
- Deep understanding of the manga-reading audience, as well as a love for manga.
- Up to date on the latest trends in the manga/anime community, as well as general trends on social media.
- Excellent copywriting skills — able to maintain a consistent and friendly brand voice.
- Strong understanding of current social media platforms and best practices, including Bluesky, Twitter/X, Instagram, and TikTok.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Able to provide basic graphic design/art direction to the staff designer to help them create striking, eye-catching graphics/assets.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience creating and releasing video content (ex. TikTok, Instagram Reels) for manga or webtoons, whether as a creator or as part of a corporate marketing team.
- Able to develop ads — plan out and request assets from designers, run campaigns, and evaluate performance using A/B testing, while reporting stats like CAC and ad spend to Marketing Director.
- Has prior relationships with press in the anime/manga space; comfortable writing and sharing press releases, managing media kits, and sending out review copies.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
- Familiarity with Google Sheets.
- Able to speak/write in Japanese at JLPT N4 or higher
